Welcome to Principal’s Corner and to our Weekly Update. This week is Mental Health Week. This year’s focus is practicing empathy. Since September, our school has been focusing on the Kindness in the Classroom Program as well as Leader in Me. The lessons along with our daily announcements are designed to help build empathy with our students.

A few years ago, I read the book “UnSelfie” by Michele Borba. She shares research that the Selfie Syndrome is contributing to a 40% decrease in empathy and a 58% increase in narcissism (all about me). This has resulted in 52% more peer cruelty (adult and youth). The pandemic created an increase in screen time for us all and has taken away from our face to face interactions. To build and nurture empathy we need to return back to making face to face connections. Empathy is a “WE” affair. – Susanne Stroud, Principal

When times are tough, we need to be there for each other. We need to practice empathy. MentalHealthWeek is May 2-8. Get ready to GetReal about how to help. www.mentalhealthweek.ca

We continue to share our learning journey with you through our Weekly Updates.
